Wheel Bearing Maintenance for Aluminum Trailers
How often to inspect and repack bearings, and the warning signs you shouldn't ignore.
How often
Inspect and repack wheel bearings every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If your trailer is submerged (boat ramps, flooded job sites) check them right away.
Warning signs
- A hub that is much hotter than the others after a drive
- Grinding, squealing or a rumbling noise
- Grease slung on the inside of the wheel
- Play when you rock the tire top-to-bottom with the trailer jacked up
What you need
One bearing & seal kit per hub (we stock 5-, 6- and 8-lug kits) and marine-grade bearing grease. Replace seals any time you pull the hub.
