Lug Nut Torque and Re-Torque Schedule

Why new and freshly mounted wheels must be re-torqued, and when.

Re-torque schedule

Aluminum and steel wheels seat in during the first miles. After new delivery or any time a wheel is removed, re-torque the lug nuts at 10, 25 and 50 miles.

Torque values

Use the value in your axle/wheel manual for your stud size. Tighten in a star pattern in three stages. Never use an impact gun for the final torque.

Check before each trip

Look for shiny marks or rust streaks around the lug nuts. Those are signs of movement and need immediate attention.
