Trailer Lights Not Working: Quick Troubleshooting

Most lighting problems are the plug or the ground. Check these in order.

1. Check the truck side

Plug in a test light or a known-good trailer. Check the truck's trailer fuses and relays.

2. Inspect the 7-way plug

Look for corrosion, bent terminals or loose wires. A little dielectric grease prevents most problems. We stock replacement 7-way plugs.

3. Check the ground

The white wire must have a clean metal-to-metal ground at the tongue. Aluminum trailers are especially sensitive to corrosion at the ground point.

4. One light out?

Timpte trailers use sealed LED lights. If one lamp is out while others work, the lamp is usually bad. It's a plug-and-play swap.
