Tie-Down Best Practices

How many tie-downs you need, and what to use for vehicles, equipment and materials.

Equipment

Use a minimum of four independent tie-downs rated for the load (Grade 70 transport chain and ratchet binders). Lower buckets and attachments and chain them down too.

Vehicles

Use wheel straps over the tires so the suspension stays free to move. Avoid strapping over suspension parts.

Materials

Use 4" ratchet straps with edge protectors on pallets and lumber.

Recheck

Stop and recheck tension after the first few miles and at every fuel stop.
